Rabbits run east this weekend
The South Dakota State cross country program is making a few changes to the remaining schedule of the season. SDSU is now competing at the Pre-National meet this weekend in Terre Haute, Ind. in addition to the Bradley Classic.
SDSU is also making two other changes to the schedule. The Jacks will compete in the Mount Marty Invitational (Oct. 26), while dropping the Fall Finale (Nov. 8).
Both the men and the women will compete in the Bradley Classic. The Bradley Classic is hosted by Bradley University in Peoria, Ill. The men will run an 8k at 4:25 p.m. and the women will hit the course with a 6k at 5:05 p.m.
The men’s team will also compete at the Pre-National meet on Saturday. The Jacks are one of 52 teams running in the 8,000-meter race. The men’s race is set for 10 a.m. (CST). The Pre-National meet is hosted by Indiana State.
The Pre-National meet features some of the top competition in the nation. All 52 teams in the “Blue Race” are ranked in the regional rankings. Three of the top-five teams in the land (Oklahoma State 1st, Colorado 2nd & Oregon 4th) will be running at the meet.
LAST TIME OUT
The Jackrabbits haven't competed since the SDSU Classic earlier this month (Oct. 4). At the Classic, the men’s team won behind a first place finish by Trent Lusignan. SDSU posted five finishers in the top-15.
The women finished fourth at the SDSU Classic. Cheyanne Bowers was the top finisher for SDSU with her time of 18:15.55 (14th).
After starting the year being ranked No. 12, the Jackrabbit men have moved up to the No. 10 spot in the Midwest Region according to the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).
SUMMIT LEAGUE HONORS
Joel Reichow and Lusignan have each been named The Summit League’s Athlete of the Week twice this year. Reichow was also named The Summit League’s Athlete of the Month for Aug./Sept.
SDSU will run next weekend at the Mount Marty Invitational (Oct. 26) in Yankton, S.D. as they prepare for The Summit League Cross Country Championships. The Summit League Cross Country Championships are scheduled for Nov. 2 in Fort Wayne, Ind.
