After finishing second overall at the NCAA Midwest Regionals last week, South Dakota State’s Trent Lusignan is traveling to Terre Haute, Ind., to represent the Jackrabbits in the NCAA D-I Cross Country Championships on Saturday.

Lusignan looks to add to his superb junior season this weekend. During Lusignan's junior year he has had the top finish for SDSU in all five meets he competed in, including finishing 19th at the Griak Invite and the Pre-Nationals meet. He won both The Summit League Cross Country Championships and the SDSU Classic.

At the NCAA Midwest Regional last week, Lusignan (30:30.3) was less than three seconds shy of winning. Chris O’Hare defended his 2012 Midwest Regional title with his final time of 30:27.94.

The Summit League honored Lusignan with numerous awards throughout the season. He was named Athlete of the Week three times, Cross Country Championship MVP, All-Summit First Team and earned All-Region (Midwest) honors.

He is the first Jackrabbit in the D-I era meet to qualify for the NCAA D-I Cross Country Championships. The last Jackrabbit to qualify for the meet was Garry Bentley in 1974, when he ran in the meet three straight times (1972-74).

Bentley’s eighth place finish in 1973 still stands as the highest finish for a Jackrabbit runner at the D-I Championships.

During the Division II days, runners had to finish in the top two at the DII Championships in order to qualify for the DI race.

The men’s 10k championship race is scheduled for Nov. 23 at noon (EST) at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course in Terre Haute, Ind. The men's 10k has 256 runners competing in the race.

The NCAA has live video and results for the race, both links can be found at the beginning of this article.
