South Dakota State defensive end Zacharia Bowers is the lone Jackrabbit representative on the Missouri Valley Football Conference All-Newcomer Team, which was announced Wednesday.
A native of Topeka, Kan., Bowers played in all 11 games with nine starts during the 2010 season, recording 26 tackles with 2.5 sacks. He also was credited with a team-high eight quarterback hurries and forced a fumble. Bowers joined the Jackrabbits after playing his first two seasons at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas.
Northern Iowa quarterback Tirrell Rennie was named MVFC Newcomer of the Year, while Youngstown State quarterback Kurt Hess was selected as the league's Freshman of the Year.
