South Dakota State has added to its list of football recuits with the signing of Orlando, Fla., defensive back Joe Martinson.

A 5-foot-11, 175-pounder, Martinson was ranked as a top-25 defensive back and top-100 player by the Orlando Sentinel while completing a standout career at Boone High School. Selected to play in the Central Florida All-Star Game, Martinson recorded a combined 105 tackles, 13 interceptions, 17 pass breakups and a pair of forced fumbles during his junior and senior seasons. A two-time most valuable defensive back honoree who also saw action at wide receiver, Martinson helped lead Boone to a pair of state semifinal appearances under the direction of head coach Phil Ziglar, including one runner-up finish. He also has played basketball at the prep level. Martinson intends to pursue a degree in business economics.

Martinson's signing brings the list of Jackrabbit signees to 21 — 19 high school standouts and two junior college players. In addition, SDSU head coach John Stiegelmeier announced Wednesday that eight players have been accepted for admission to SDSU and plan to join the team in the fall.
