Jacks open Minnesota Challenge

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Andrea Budahl posted a second-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle Friday to lead the South Dakota State University women's swimming and diving team on the opening day of the Minnesota Challenge.

A junior from Mitchell, Budahl paced a contigent of three Jackrabbits who finished in the top six of the 500 freestyle with a runner-up time of 5 minutes, 13.44 seconds. Kelsey Boucher followed in third place with a time of 5:20.12, with Fawn Weihl taking sixth in 5:26.96.

Two other Jackrabbits clocked top-six finishes in the abbreviated evening program. Devonne Dalin took fifth in the 50 freestyle in 24.43 seconds, with Kaylin Caron placing sixth in the 200 individual medley, 2:15.86.

Diving competition begins at 9 a.m. Saturday, with swimming events starting at 11 a.m. at the University of Minnesota Aquatics Center.
