South Dakota State University football players Mitch Erickson and Chris Wagner have been named to the 2006 Football Gazette Football Championship Subdivision Northwest All-Region Second Team.

Erickson, a junior from Hutchinson, Minn., anchored a Jackrabbit offensive line that cleared the way for the team to average 342 total yards of offense per game, while splitting time between guard and tackle. Erickson was honored on the all-Great West Football Conference First Team and was a third-team All-America selection by The Associated Press. He was a third-team all-region honoree in 2005.

Wagner, a junior from Brookings, caught 24 passes for 265 yards and two touchdowns during the 2006 season. A first-team all-Great West Football Conference selection at tight end, Wagner ranked third on the team in both receptions and receiving yards.

South Dakota State, coached by John Stiegelemeier, ended the 2006 season with a 7-4 overall record and a runner-up finish in the Great West Football Conference. The Jackrabbits ended the season ranked 21st in the Football Championship Subdivision's College Sporting News coaches' poll and 22nd in the FCS poll conducted by The Sports Network.

The Jackrabbits will begin spring drills in preparation for the 2007 season on March 31. SDSU is slated to open the 2007 campaign Aug. 30 at Western Illinois.
