Women's golf 12th in Florida

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla.-- The SDSU women’s golf team opened up the first of two tournaments on Friday, sitting in 12th place after round one.

The Jacks shot 341 as a team for the first round on the 6,178-yard, par-72 LPGA Invitational Golf Course. There are 14 teams competing at the three-day tournament hosted by Xavier.

Senior Morgan Fitts is tied for 31st with an 18-hole score of 81. Freshman Michaela Kouri is three strokes back in a tie for 49th after carding an 84.

Sophomore Amber Houser and freshman Brianna Janu are tied for 61st, each with an opening round of 88, and Sydney MacDonald shot a 97 and currently in a tie for 72nd.

In the team standings, the Jackrabbits sit 31 strokes behind Florida Gulf Coast University (310) after day one. Individually, Xavier’s Shane Crutchfield (72) was the only golfer to shoot par and sits one stroke ahead of Mercer University’s Lacey Fears (73).

The tournament continues with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start for round two on Saturday and wraps up with round three Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m.
