ST. PAUL, Minn. — Two first-half goals doomed South Dakota State’s historic run into the NCAA women’s College Cup as the Minnesota Golden Gophers stopped the Jackrabbits, 2-0, in second-round action Sunday afternoon at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

The tempo was control by Minnesota for much of the game as the Gophers outshot the Jacks, 16-8. Erin Kasmarik and Kerstyn Farrell each fired a pair of shots for SDSU.

Molly Rouse put the Gophers on the board early in the first half with a goal in the second minute of the game. Lindsey Schwartz fed Rouse who sent the shot into the top right corner of the goal for her fourth goal of the season.

The Gophers found the back of the net 12 minutes later on a controversial goal when Schwartz received a cross from Katie Bethke to score on the header, her eighth of the season. SDSU goalkeeper Nicole Lograsso appeared to make the stop but it was ruled the ball crossed the goal line by inches to give the Gophers a 2-0 lead.

Lograsso, one of nine seniors on the team, made five saves.

SDSU ended the season 15-5-1 overall. Minnesota improved to 22-3 and will face top-ranked Notre Dame (Ind.) in quarterfinal action.
