The South Dakota State women's soccer team dropped its weekend finale at Oakland on Sunday, 1-0...

SDSU surrendered a goal in the 15th minute and was unable to recover.

Despite playing strong defense for the remainder of the contest, the Jackrabbit offense was unable to break through.

SDSU led in shots (9-6) and was even in shots on goal (3-3), but was unable to capitalize on its opportunities.

Oakland attempted five of its six shots in the first half, settling into a defensive scheme to preserve the one-goal lead in the second half.

"I thought we played a great second half of soccer," head coach Lang Wedemeyer said. "Unfortunately, we made one mistake in the first half and they capitalized on it and we just couldn't get the break we needed. I was very proud of our effort today."

SDSU was whistled for 11 fouls and two offsides, while Oakland was whistled for 10 fouls and three offsides.

Christa Nyblom led the attack with two shots, one on goal.

Elisa Stamatakis made two saves in 90 minutes of play.

SDSU dropped to 2-9-1, 0-3-0 in the conference.
Oakland maintained its place atop the standings at 6-3-3, 3-0-0 in conference play.

Next up the Jacks play four-straight conference games at home, beginning with IUPUI on Oct. 12 and Western Illinois on Oct. 14. Game times are set for 6 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively.
