South Dakota State University head women's basketball coach Aaron Johnston announced Wednesday three members of the high school Class of 2017 have signed national letters of intent to play for the Jackrabbits next season.
Signing Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period, were:
- Myah Selland, 6-2, forward, Letcher, S.D. (Sanborn Central High School)
- Tylee Irwin, 6-0, guard, Wahpeton, N.D. (Wahpeton High School)
- Lindsey Theuninck, 5-8, guard, North Mankato, Minn. (Loyola High School)
"We are excited to have Myah, Tylee and Lindsey join the Jackrabbit family!" Johnston said. "Each of them brings unique qualities that fit well into our culture of success on and off the court. We have enjoyed building a relationship with these young ladies and their families and look forward to them positively impacting our program in the years to come."
Myah Selland
Selland, a three-time first-team All-Custer Battlefield Highway and All-281 Conference selection, averaged 23.8 points, 8.3 rebounds, 3.8 assists and 3.1 steals while shooting 57.6 percent from the field and 36.7 percent from 3-point range as a junior at Sanborn Central High School. The two-time CBH Conference MVP was a two-time Class B first team all-state selection and a second-team pick as a freshman. Selland was named a two-time Midco Sports Network "B" Player of the Year and Mitchell Daily Republic Player of the Year and twice named to the Argus Leader/Sanford Pentagon First Five.
As the school record holder for most points (619), rebounds (225), steals (81) and assists (119) in a game, Selland enters her senior season with 1,653 points, 728 rebounds and 411 assists in her career.
Tylee Irwin
Irwin averaged 20.0 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.4 assists, 2.1 steals and 2.1 blocks per game while shooting 39.8 percent from the field and 76.2 percent from the free-throw line last season at Wahpeton High School. The three-time All-Eastern Dakota Conference selection is a two-time Class A first-team all-state selection. Irwin also earned all-tournament honors at the state tournament in 2015-16.
Irwin, who has eight school records, including career points, enters her senior season with 1,565 points, 714 rebounds, 124 assists, 157 steals and 79 blocks.
Lindsey Theuninck
Theuninck, Loyola's boys and girls all-time leading scoring with 2,539 career points, is a four-time Valley All-Conference and Mankato All-City pick and, three-time Minnesota Girls Basketball Coaches Association all-state selection and earned state all-tournament honors in 2014.
The point guard holds the school records for career rebounds (847), points (811) and games played and started (149) in a season, in addition to, points in a game (46) and steals in a game (15). Theuninck enters her senior season averaging 17 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 3.5 steals per game for her career.
The South Dakota State women's basketball program has made seven trips to the NCAA Tournament after winning seven Summit League Tournament titles. The Jackrabbits have also won five regular-season league titles in the last eight years.
SDSU hosts regional rival Creighton Friday in its season and home opener at 7 p.m. in the friendly confines of Frost Arena.
