South Dakota State University swimmer Weston Christensen was named Thursday to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 6 Men's At-Large Team.
A junior from Pierre, Christensen earned a spot on the 11-member squad with a perfect 4.0 grade-point average while majoring in civil engineering. The men's at-large team is made up of student-athletes competing in fencing, golf, gymnastics, lacrosse, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo and wrestling.
In the pool, Christensen placed eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle at the 2016 Summit League Championships. He holds top-10 marks in program history in both the 1,000 and 1,650 freestyle. In addition, Christensen has been a member of the Summit League All-Academic Team each of the past two seasons and has been recognized as a Summit League Distinguished Scholar and on the Commissioner's List of Academic Excellence.
Christensen will advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America consideration later this month. Selections to the Academic All-District 6 Men's At-Large Team were based upon a vote of sports information directors in Arkansas, Iowa, Louisiana, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Dakota, South Dakota and Wisconsin. Candidates must be at least a sophomore in athletic and academic standing, a significant contributor to his team and carry at least a 3.3 GPA.
