South Dakota State track and field will kick off the 2017 portion of their season on Jan. 21 when they host the Jim Emmerich Alumni Invitational at the Sanford Jackrabbit Athletic Complex.

Field events will get things started, with the men's weight throw, women's shot put, men's and women's long jump, and women's pole vault and high jump all set to begin at Noon. At 12:15 p.m., running events will kick off with the women's B Section 3,000-meter run. The "Fastest little Jackrabbit" race will take place at 12:30 p.m. and will be followed up by the Phil LaVallee Alumni Mile at 12:35 p.m. A full schedule, along with heat sheets and other information, can be found at the

The meet will feature athletes from Augustana, Iowa Central, University of Mary, Minnesota-Duluth, Minnesota State, North Dakota, North Dakota State, Omaha, Sioux Falls, and South Dakota.

The Jackrabbits hosted the SDSU Holiday Open and Multi on Dec. 2-3.Â
Silvia Zanini won both the shot put (47-00.25) and the weight throw (62-00.50), posting personal bests in each. Her mark of 62-00.50 moves her into the number two spot on the SDSU indoor weight throw top-10 list.
Carly Carper won the 60-meter dash finishing in 7.65 seconds, which stands as the top time in The Summit League on the young season. Carper also finished third in the 200-meter dash (25.14). FreshmanÂ
Miatta Flemister-Smith finished second in the 60-meter dash, posting a time of 7.80.

Colton Bender posted an impressive throw of 64-2.5 in the weight throw, which is the second-best mark in school history.
Zach Koosman won the high jump, clearing an indoor personal-best mark of 6-10.75. FreshmanÂ
Bryant Courter finished second in the high jump clearing 6-08.75.

Jake Lieberg won the triple jump with a distance of 47-03.50, a mark that puts him at number seven on the indoor top-10 list. He also finished fourth in the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 8.45 in his first collegiate competition.

Alejandro Sanchez won the mile run (4:19.36) and the 1,000-meter run (2:34.80).
