CLEARWATER, Florida—The South Dakota State softball teams split a pair of games on Wednesday at the EC Moore Complex in Clearwater, Florida. The Jacks fell in game one to SIU Edwardsville, 4-0, and defeated La Salle in game two, 3-1.
South Dakota State now sits at 8-13 on the season.

SIU Edwardsville 4, South Dakota State 0
South Dakota State fell victim to a masterful pitching performance by SIU Edwardsville's Haley Chambers-Book in game one.

Erin Mullen got the lone hit for the Jackrabbits with a single to left field to lead off the bottom of the third.

Abby Deane (2-7) pitched seven strong innings for the Jacks, allowing four runs (three earned runs) on six hits while striking out three.

SIU Edwardsville pushed across an unearned run in the top of the second. After the first batter reached on a hit-by-pitch, a Jackrabbit throwing error on a sacrifice bunt allowed the runner to score.

The Cougars added two runs in the top of the third on a two-run homerun from Haley Chambers-Book. SIU Edwardsville also scored a run in the fifth on an RBI triple by Reagan Curtis.

South Dakota State 3, La Salle 1
In game two, the Jacks used timely hitting and solid pitching to earn the victory.

Ashlyn Bender (6-4) got the win after throwing five innings and allowing one run on five hits.
Abby Deane pitched the final two innings to earn her first career save.

Emily Ensrud and
Baily Janssen led the charge offensively each collecting two hits and an RBI.

La Salle struck first in the bottom of the second on a Valerie Pineiro homerun to make it 1-0.

In the top of the third the Jackrabbits answered back with a run of their own. Janssen drew a lead off walk followed by a  Ensrud single to center field. Janssen scored on a fielders choice the following batter.

South Dakota State took the lead for good in the top of the fourth. Janssen and Ensrud combined to bring in two more runs with a double and single, respectively, before the Jacks held on to close out the win.

South Dakota State will remain in Clearwater, Florida, for the USF-Under Armour Invitational where they will open the tournament facing Villanova at 8:15 a.m. Friday.
