|  MEET 5: South Dakota State (Men & Women) at Mark Messersmith Invitational |
South Dakota State will travel to Cedar Falls, Iowa for the Mark Messersmith Invitational after hosting a pair of meets last weekend. The Jackrabbits will compete with Northern Iowa and other Missouri Valley schools at the UNI-Dome.
The men's heptathlon will start Thursday morning at 11 a.m. with four events (60m, long jump, shot put, high jump). The rest of the heptathlon events will finish up on Friday morning at 10 a.m.

The women's pentathlon will start Friday morning at 10:45 a.m. and conclude at 4:25 p.m. with the 800m.

Action on Saturday will kick off with the field events starting at 10 a.m., while track events will begin at 12:30 p.m. The last scheduled event, the men's 4x400m relay, is expected to start at 4:05 p.m.

Notable teams competing with South Dakota State will be: Drake, Indiana State, Loyola, Northern Iowa, and Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

It will be the second of three straight weekends competing against the Panthers, as both schools are scheduled to travel to the Husker Invitational next weekend.

Midwest Rankings
The first regional rankings were released on Monday afternoon by USTFCCCA.org. The Jackrabbits saw themselves sitting 20th for the men's team and 21st for the women's team. This weekend's competition has some schools ranked higher than the Jackrabbits.

South Dakota State also had two individuals ranked in the top eight of their respective events. Junior
Krista Steele is ranked fourth in the region with her 800m personal-best mark of 2:11.00 last weekend. On the men's side, sophomore
Bryant Courter is ranked fourth in the long jump and seventh in the triple jump. His triple jump mark of 50-02.00 was set last weekend and his season-best long jump was set in December.

2017 Mark Messersmith Performances
In the 2017 season, sophomore
Sam Zenner recorded his first collegiate win in the 60m, recording 6.89 seconds.

The men's 4x400m relay consisting of sophomore
Landon Larson, and graduates Marc Husman, Dru Kenny, and Adam Belhaj, posted a win (3:20.87) for the second consecutive weekend.

Bryant Courter placed second in the long jump (23-06.00) while senior
J.J. Hejna finished fifth (21-11.50).

Junior
Chase Cayo recorded a personal-best time of 8:39.88 in the 3,000m at that point of the season.

Last Time Out
Last weekend, the Jacks hosted the SDSU DII Invitational and the Jim Emmerich Invitational. Sophomore
Bryant Courter competed in both the long jump and triple jump en-route to a third-place finish in the long jump and a school record in the triple jump.

There were strong performances from both throwing group on both Friday and Saturday.

Senior
Kasie Vollmer had a seventh-place shot put toss (47-04.25), which put her name eighth on the school's all-time throw list. The freshman,
Madeline Moorhouse, heaved the shot put for another top-10 finish in the event, placing ninth in the event. Her mark of 45-11.75 placed ninth on the school's top 10, tied with fellow thrower, sophomore
Micayla TerWee.

In the weight throw, junior
Abby Sudbeck launched a new career best of 58-02.50 feet, which still puts her in sixth for the farthest in school history. She finished sixth in the competition on Saturday.

On the men's side, sophomore
Noah Huber added his name to the school's top 10 list. In the weight throw at the SDSU DII Invitational, he recorded a 52-03.25 toss, finishing 16th and wrote his name in at 10th all-time.

Junior
Krista Steele had a couple great runs in the 800m and 4x400m relay last weekend. She won the 800m with a personal best 2:11.00. The mark is ranked second behind fellow teammate, sophomore
Oksana Covey. Then, at the end of the night, Steele ran the third leg of the 4x400m relay, which has the season-best time for Jacks.

Rachel King ran her first races of the 2018 campaign last weekend, running the mile and 3,000m in the Jim Emmerich. She placed fifth in the mile (4:54.51) and won the 3,000m (9:50.67).
