A South Dakota State Win Would ...
Give SDSU its 29th win of the season and be the program's first Division I NCAA Tournament win … push Otzelberger to 47-23 at South Dakota State … give the Jackrabbits a 1,512-1,030-1 all-time mark.
A South Dakota State Loss Would ...
End the Jackrabbits' season with a school-record 28 wins at 28-8 overall … make Otzelberger 46-24 at South Dakota State ... drop SDSU to 1,511-1,031-1 all-time.
Jacks in the Big Dance
After having just four players on last year's roster with tournament experience, the Jacks carry a group of veterans into the 2018 Big Dance with eight Jackrabbits having logged minutes in the NCAA Tournament.
Though State has not won a game in its four prior NCAA Tournament appearances, the Jacks were close to a pair of upsets in 2011-12 and 2015-16 and last year were within four of top-seeded Gonzaga at the half while leading much of the first period.
In the 2012 Tournament, SDSU trailed No. 3 seed Baylor by four with less than a minute to play, but saw the Bears win 68-60.
In the 2016 Tournament, SDSU charged back from an 18-point deficit to Maryland and trailed by just two with 13 seconds on the clock, but saw Maryland pull out the 79-74 win.
A summary of the Jackrabbits' Division I NCAA Tournament experience is on page four of the game notes.

David Jenkins Jr. has burst on the scene through his first season of collegiate basketball, racking up a freshman record 549 points with 82 3-pointers through 34 games. He has hit at least two 3-pointers in 23 contests and on Dec. 15 at Colorado set the school's freshman single-game scoring record at the Division I level with 31. He matched that Feb. 8 at Denver.
Jenkins is now nine 3-pointers shy of the Jackrabbit season record for 3-pointers made (after Daum reset the mark at 91) and his 212 attempts on the year is fourth-most in school history for a season (Daum has attempted 216 this year).
The lone West coach native on the Jackrabbit roster has reached double figures in 27 games, becoming the first freshman to accomplish the feat at SDSU since Steve Holdren did it in 16 of his first 23 appearances in 2004-05. Holdren finished the season with 19 double-figure performances over 26 games that year.
Jenkins and Holdren are also the only two Jackrabbit freshmen to lead the team in scoring in their first collegiate game over the last 17 years (dating back to 2000-01 when game-by-game stats were readily available).
Jenkins is second on the team with 16.1 points per game in 2017-18, shooting 44 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from long distance.

Fellow Tacoma native Isaiah Thomas, currently with the Cleveland Cavaliers, had 541 points and 29 double figure games in his 34-game freshman season at Washington (2008-09).
Jenkins scored over 2,000 points in his high school career before spending a year at Sunrise Christian Academy Prep School. He was named as a newcomer to watch in The Summit League by TheAthletic.com's John Rohde.
As of March 12, Jenkins sits eighth among Division I freshmen this season in total points.

It was the seventh 20-point game of the season for the Tacoma, Washington native, who is sixth nationally in total points among all NCAA Division I freshman.

Jacks Stays Fourth in Mid-Major Top 25
The Jackrabbits remained fourth in the latest College Sports Madness Mid-Major poll, released March 5 by the organization.
State was fourth last week and has been in the top 10 for the last nine polls. The Jacks have been ranked in 17 of 18 versions of the poll.
The latest edition of the poll features 2017-18 opponents South Dakota (No. 6) and Buffalo (No. 13).
Senior Impact
Three seniors will leave the program after this season as the most successful group in school history.
Lane Severyn,
Ian Theisen and Reed Telllinghuisen have gone 96-42 (.695) as a group over the last four years, a mark good enough for the most winning percentage and wins in the school's Division I history. A win in the NCAA Tournament would match the group for the most program wins ever in a four-year period.
Tough Tests
South Dakota State played five Power Five (ACC, SEC, Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-12) opponents this season and has two wins those games. The Jacks will add another Big Ten matchup in the NCAA Tournament with a first-round bout against Ohio State.
- The Jackrabbits knocked off Ole Miss (Nov. 28) in overtime after a win over Iowa (Nov. 21) at the Cayman Islands Classic.
- SDSU also faced Kansas (Nov. 17) and Colorado (Dec. 15) in addition to a road matchup at then-No. 6 Wichita State (a member of the American Athletic Conference), with narrow losses against the Shockers and Buffaloes. At WSU, the Jacks led for over 28 minutes of game action, but a late charge helped the Shockers defend their home court. SDSU charged back from an early deficit in Colorado to force overtime, but could not pull off the comeback in a double overtime affair that saw SDSU play just eight Jackrabbits in 50 minutes of game action.
- South Dakota State has seven wins over Power Five programs since joining The Summit League in 2007, picking up wins over Iowa State (2008), Iowa (2010 and 2017), Washington (2011), TCU (2015), Minnesota (2015) and Ole Miss (2017).
- SDSU's wins over Iowa and Ole Miss this season came in the shortest time frame of any Summit League team since 1998 (seven days). The Jackrabbits are the fifth league team to post a win over separate Power Five conferences in the same regular season, and the first to do it since 2009.
- Against Power Five opponents in his career, Mike Daum is averaging 17.6 points and 7.2 rebounds per game and shooting 44 percent from the field and 42.9 percent from deep.

SDSU Last Time Out (March 6, 2018)
SIOUX FALLS, S.D. -- For the third year in a row, the Jackrabbits are dancing.
South Dakota State men's basketball clinched its third consecutive Summit League Tournament title Tuesday night, taking down No. 2 seed South Dakota in the championship game, 97-87, in front of 11,114 fans at the Denny Sanford PREMIER Center to earn the league's automatic berth to the NCAA Tournament.
SDSU (28-6) shot 47.7 percent from the field and buried 14 of 28 from deep with four double-figure scorers.
David Jenkins, Jr., led four Jackrabbits in double figures with 29 points, with Daum adding 25 points to go with his 11 rebounds for his 21st double-double of the year.
Reed Tellinghuisen also posted a double-double, notching 18 points and grabbing 11 rebounds, while
Brandon Key pitched in with 10 points and a game-high six assists.
The teams traded punches early, with 11 lead changes in the opening nine minutes before a Jenkins 3-pointer around the 11-minute mark sparked the Jacks on a burst of eight unanswered to open up a 25-18 lead at 8:59.
After USD closed the gap to four (29-25), a Severyn 3-pointer at 6:33 started SDSU on a 14-3 run over the next four minutes to grow its lead to 15 (43-28), and though the Coyotes ended the run the Jacks carried a 47-35 lead into halftime.
State roared out of the locker room with a 10-2 spurt to build its lead to 20 (57-37) before the under-16 media, and though USD rallied it to within six the 'Yotes would come no closer as the Jacks recovered the momentum to finish the win.
Opponent Last Time Out (March 2, 2018)
OhioStateBuckeyes.com
NEW YORK (AP) Tony Carr found Josh Reaves for a game-winning layup with 3.1 seconds to play and Penn State picked up a 69-68 victory over second-seeded Ohio State in the quarterfinals of the Big Ten Tournament on Friday night.
Carr had 25 points for the second straight night and the seventh-seeded Nittany Lions scored the final five points in beating the 13th-ranked Buckeyes for the third time this season.
Penn State (21-12) will face the winner of the quarterfinal between third-seeded and No. 8 Purdue and 14th-seeded Rutgers in the semifinals on Saturday at Madison Square Garden.
Lamar Stevens added 15 points and Shep Garner had 13 and a crucial steal from Big Ten Conference Player of the Year Keita Bates-Diop with 21 seconds to play.
The Nittany Lions did not call time out after the steal and Carr made a pass from the foul line to a wide-open Reaves underneath.
Ohio State (24-8) had a chance to win after calling a timeout, but a last-second shot by C.J. Jackson was not close.
Bates-Diop carried the Buckeyes in the second half, scoring 17 of his 25 points. However, all he is probably going to remember is losing the ball with 21 seconds to go and his team ahead 68-67.
Kam Williams and Jae'Sean Tate each added 10 points for the Buckeyes, who will wait for their invitation to the NCAA Tournament in a little more than a week.
