Dr. Chad A. Kurtenbach has been the team physician for SDSU since 2013. He is a board certified orthopaedic surgeon with subspecialty certification in orthopaedic sports medicine. Kurtenbach is the former assistant team physician for the Minnesota Vikings, Minnesota Twins, and Minnesota Timberwolves.Â

Kurtenbach received his medical degree from the University of Minnesota. He completed his orthopaedic surgery residency at Orlando Health in Orlando, Fla., and did an orthopaedic surgery sports medicine fellowship at TRIA Orthopaedic Center in Minneapolis.Â

Kurtenbach specializes in comprehensive sports medicine and the treatment of athletic injuries. Â He specializes in meniscal repair and meniscal transplants, ACL reconstruction, multi-ligamentous knee injuries, cartilage restoration, shoulder instability/labral tears, rotator cuff injuries, and fracture care.Â

He belongs to the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons (AAOS), American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine (AOSSM), Arthroscopy Association of North America (AANA), International Society of Arthroscopy, Knee Surgery and Orthopaedic Sports Medicine (ISAKOS) and South Dakota State Orthopaedic Society (SDSOS).Â

Kurtenbach has published clinical research in the areas of ACL injuries, posterolateral corner knee injuries, and unicompartmental knee arthritis.
