Kansas State scored single runs in the eighth and ninth innings as the Wildcats rallied to defeat South Dakota State 6-5 in SDSUs 2006 baseball opener Tuesday at Tointon Stadium in Manhattan.
Brando Farr led off the bottom of the ninth with a walk, and scored on a one-out double by Cris Tapia as KSU improved to 4-1 for the season.
SDSU scored in the top of the first when sophomore Tim Hanigan led off with a double, went to third on a ground out by Jake Rogers and came home on an infield ground out by Nick Adams.
Hanigan started the third inning rally when he walked on a 3-2 pitch. Rogers singled with Hanigan moving to second. Adams followed with a two-run double and came home on a single by Tyson Fisher. A single by Cal Lewis drove home Fisher putting the Jacks ahead 5-2.
Rogers led a nine-hit SDSU attack going 3-for-5 while Lewis had two hits.
K-State entered the game 3-1, with victories over Texas-Arlington (13-3), Louisiana-Monroe (10-5) and Purdue (9-3).
The teams meet again tomorrow (Wednesday) with a 3 p.m. start.
