Game Notes |
South Dakota State closes out its final week of preparation for The Summit League schedule as the Jackrabbits finish their nearly two-week road trip through the Southeast. SDSU is coming off its third consecutive doubleheader. The Jackrabbits' trip has included a pair of games against No. 3 Duke, Kennesaw State and No. 16 Florida State.Â
Â
South Dakota State will next play in the John Cropp Classic hosted by Kentucky in Lexington. The tournament is slated to start on Thursday with the Jackrabbits taking on Ohio State at 2 p.m. CT and No. 23 Kentucky at 5 p.m. CT. The tournament was originally scheduled to begin on Friday, but expected inclement weather that day has altered the tournament schedule. SDSU is scheduled to play five games at the Kentucky-hosted event, but the weekend schedule will be modified based on Friday.Â
Â
Also included in the tournament field is Columbia. SDSU is expected to play Kentucky and Ohio State twice as well as Columbia once.
Â
The Jackrabbits most recently competed against the Florida State Seminoles on their home field in a doubleheader on Tuesday. SDSU held a 5-3 lead in the top of the fifth against FSU in game one, but the Seminoles responded with eight runs to complete a rally for an 11-5 win. Florida State closed the day out with a six-inning 8-0 win. It was SDSU's first time playing Florida State in 14 years.Â
Â
SDSU is 13-16 overall this season behind one of the more difficult schedules at the Division I level. SDSU has played the 21st toughest schedule with all of its 29 games outside of its home state, along with 10 games against nationally-ranked opponents.Â
