South Dakota State travels west to compete against a first-time opponent on Wednesday. The Jackrabbits are slated to take on Oregon in Eugene at 8:30 p.m. CT inside Matthew Knight Arena.
The Jackrabbits play the second of two high-quality foes on the road. SDSU is coming off a Sunday 65-58 defeat at Northern Iowa. The Jackrabbits had a two-point lead midway through the first half against the Panthers, but UNI eventuallyled  for more than 31 minutes of the contest. The Panthers are in the top 10 of the most recent CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Top 25 rankings.
SDSU was boosted in the matchup in Cedar Falls by sophomore center
Damon Wilkinson. Coming off the bench for the first time this season, Wilkinson went 7 of 8 from the field for a career-high 16 points. He also grabbed a career-best 10 rebounds for his first-career double-double. Sophomore guard
Joe Sayler also scored 16 points while junior
Kalen Garry added 12.
South Dakota State's loss to UNI was the first of its season as well as first under head coach
Bryan Petersen. The first two games saw the Yellow and Blue led on the floor by sophomore guard
Jaden Jackson. The Bellevue, Neb., native had consecutive 20-point performances leading SDSU out to a 2-0 record. He's currently averaging a team-best 17.3 points per game.
The Jackrabbits' contest against the Ducks will be the 14th member of the current iteration of the Big Ten that SDSU will have played. The Jacks are 5-60 against current Big Ten members. SDSU's last win came in 2017, an 80-72 victory over Iowa. The Jacks took on Michigan in the 2013 NCAA Tournament, Maryland in the 2016 tournament and Ohio State in the 2018 edition. During the 2021-22 season, SDSU made a trip to Spokane and beat then fellow Pac-12 member of Oregon's Washington State, 77-74, that December.
Oregon is receiving votes in both national polls heading into Wednesday's matchup. The Ducks are 2-0 this season with wins over Hawaii (60-59) and Rice (67-63). Nate Bittle and Jackson Shelstad were both Preseason All-Big Ten selections. Oregon, which has been to two consecutive NCAA Tournaments, is led by Dana Altman who's in his 16th year guiding the Ducks.
